escape

Call: Refugee artists from Ukraine wanted for multimedia theater project!

“ESCAPE! – Escape as a creative challenge” is a multimedia theater and art project on the theme of escape for the sake of bare survival, abrupt emigration, departure into a foreign land.

In view of the current situation in Ukraine, the Prague Shakespeare Company (Czech Republic) in cooperation with the Filmboard Karlsruhe (Germany) launches the creative participatory project “ESCAPE!” under the direction of the artist and theater educator Markus Nieden,
accompanied by the documentary filmmaker Joachim Wossidlo .

Participants are invited to share stations of their escape,
stories about their partly unforeseen, often involuntary stay abroad (journey into the unknown, discarding their previous identity in favor of a new one,
confrontation with cultural differences and other aspects of flight situations).
Based on interviews, self-written texts, readings and theater improvisations, we will develop scenes and assemble them into a play, accompanied by expressive musical as well as visual contributions.

What are we looking for?

This call is addressed to all artists (amateurs and professionals):
Actors, writers, musicians, singers, also visual artists, scenographers and editors (post-production)!

We are also looking for a production assistant and an interpreter (English/Ukrainian/Russian/German)!

Please also mention any other special talents you can bring to the project.

Basic working language skills in English are desired. Ukrainian/Russian, Czech and German as parts of the production are also welcome.

How does the project work?

Selected candidates will be invited to auditions in Karlsruhe (Germany) and in Prague (Czech Republic), which after successful completion will participate in a four-day masterclass in our theater production facility in the cultural center CESTA, Tabor (Czech Republic) between April and September 2022 (free of charge)!

The finalists of the master class will then become the ensemble of the play “ESCAPE!” with a festive premiere and accompanying expo in the theater of the “PRAGUE SHAKESPEARE COMPANY” in Prague (Czech Republic) as well as optional participation in later guest performances within the EU 2022/23.

All expenses such as travel, accommodation and meals are covered.
